This is one of those pieces where the closer you look, the better it gets.

Polished into a tower while leaving its incredible natural quartz formations on display, this piece brings together two different expressions of silica, banded agate and crystalline quartz.

From a mineralogical perspective, agate is a variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of silica (SiO₂). Rather than forming as large visible crystals, its quartz crystals are incredibly fine, creating the smooth, dense appearance we associate with agate. Its beautiful bands and patterns develop as silica-rich fluids deposit successive layers of material within cavities in the host rock.

And then you reach the geodes. 

Where cavities remained open rather than becoming completely filled with chalcedony, larger quartz crystals were able to grow inward. This creates those gorgeous sparkling pockets throughout the tower, allowing you to see microcrystalline chalcedony and visibly crystalline quartz within the same piece.

Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7 and belongs to the trigonal crystal system. Agate generally measures around 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. The exposed quartz pockets are naturally uneven and should be handled with a little extra care.

Agate is traditionally associated with grounding, stability, balance and protection, while Clear Quartz is commonly associated with clarity, intention and amplification. Together, they're often chosen for creating a grounded, calm space while bringing focus to personal intentions.
